Down a Country Lane
|Down a Country Lane (Study)|
2018, watercolour & gouache in sketchbook, en plein air.
Down a country lane I strolled
Steered by foaming grassy verges
Cotton clouds and sun bright gold
And patchwork fields through leafy hedges.
I never meant to walk so far
But each bend pulled me on and on,
The pleasure of the crunching tar
And seeing what lays just beyond.
When came the time to turn around
And see my way fade in the gloaming,
I smiled at the peace I'd found,
And how my heart had filled by roaming.
